Electoral Commission Finally Obeys Court’s Order: Election suspended

The district office of the Electoral Commission in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal has now suspended the District Level Elections because of the interlocutory injunction motion by the two teenagers in the district.

The election is set for Tuesday, 17 January 2023 for Electoral Area representatives at the District Assembly and unit committee levels.

Mr Jonathan Okine, the Director of the Commission in Lower Manya Krobo in a telephone conversation with Omanba Kodwo Boafo of TRUST FM – Asesewa disclosed that the Regional Director informed him to stop all activities towards this Tuesday’s District Level Elections until further notice.

According to him, the call came through early today whiles they were training polling officials for the exercise on Tuesday.

Reacting to the suspension of the election, Mr Jonathan Okine noted he was directed without reason.

As reported earlier by, some citizens believe that the suspension is because of the court injunction notice filed by two teenagers (Michael Tetteh and Angel Agyemang) in the district.

Meanwhile, Nene Sakite II the Konor of the Manya Krobo Traditional Area in a petition dated 12 December 2022, called on the Electoral Commission to reconsider mainstreaming the district Level elections in Lower Manya Krobo to that of the National one.

…….. we wish to kindly plead and appeal to the Electoral Commission of Ghana to reconsider its decision to conduct the Lower Manya Krobo District Level Elections in January 2023 to enable the district to join the Nationwide District Level Elections in 2023.
