This year’s edition of the New Year Clinic came off on the 6th February 2022 at the Agormanya Parish Hall.
The aim of the program is for youth on Kroboland to succeed in 2022. This is mainly the reason the seminar is free to attend.
This edition was on the theme:
STRATEGIES FOR A SUCCESSFUL YEAR
The program started at 4:00 PM right after the inauguration ceremony of St. Clement Quasi Parish at Nuaso. About 150 people made it to the seminar.
Engineer Philip Tetteh Padi who holds a Bachelor of Science, Degree in Geological Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) was the facilitator for the day.
He is currently the System Planning Engineer at Volta River Authority. Engineer Philip Tetteh Padi is best described as the Best Water Resources Engineer in Ghana. He is an Honourable Person.
Miss Benedicta Ossom Larko is the Master of Ceremony (M.C)
The facilitator started with two illustrations, being the Jar of life and the Wheel of life.
JAR OF LIFE
He used two Jars, enormous stones, and sand to show the Jar of life.
He called two men, the first man could pour sand into his jar and could later put the stones on it.
His jar was full that he couldn’t close it. The second man could fill the first jar with stones and later add the sand, and water.
Everything went in perfectly with him and he even added water and could still close the jar.
The speaker told the audience about the first man who couldn’t close his jar was like those who fill our lives with less important things which is the sand before adding the most important things which are the stones
The Second man was like those who fill our lives with the most important things (stones) first before adding the less important ones (sand).
He said we must plan life to achieve success.
The Wheel of Life
Ing. Philip Padi started by asking a question “which will you choose for your bike?” with a picture illustration named A, B, and C. Everyone present chose item B because it’s a perfect circle and meaningful as a wheel.
This is what he has to say about the Wheel of life. He showed it by drawing a Wheel divided into 8 equal parts with a scale from 1 to 10. Picture below.
He placed in each segment of the wheel into Financial, Emotion, Health, Profession, Business, Relationship, Spirituality, and Sin. He also said you can add more when drawing your own wheel.
He rated each column of the wheel with a mark, after the rating he joined the marks to see if he has a balanced life.
He advised everyone to draw his/her wheel of life so they can see areas of life that need more focus and attention.
Ing. Padi gave seven strategies you have to develop to ensure a balance in life. These are the strategies.
Strategies For A Successful Year
- Define What Success Is for You.
- Choose Who You Want to Be.
- Set Compelling and Achievable Goals
- Do A Personal SWOT.
- Plan Your Life.
- Implement, Monitor, and Evaluate Your Plans
- Put God at The Middle of All These.
Definition of Success
Engineer Philip Tetteh Padi said this defines it to be. Don’t let other people define success else you will fail.
He said Successful people are those who have taken time to figure out to define what they want to become and what they want to achieve in life.
Success is not by accident and a good book can change your life, not Facebook. Therefore, if you define your own success, you will know you are on the right path or not.
Choose Who You Want to Be.
Ing. Philip said, “Choose who you want to become and not a copy of others.” Set dreams for the next 5 to 20 years and have a vision, mission, and values. With these, you have a purpose and with a purpose, “when a million things bring you down, you will find one reason to keep up he emphasizes.” He wants his audience to create the lifestyle they want.
Set Compelling and Achievable Goals
Setting interesting and Achievable goals gives you a sense of direction. It also helps to see the bigger picture and focus on the most important ones. This brings us to the illustration of a jar of life.
Do A Personal SWOT
The next strategy the Speaker spoke about is the SWOT analysis. The SWOT which is the strategic management, technique used to help a person identify his/her Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats can help you plan a balance in life and be successful.
Plan Your Life.
Ing. Philip Padi talked about Planning a life as his next point.
He said, without a goal, you will measure and compare yourself with others and not your true self.
He advised you always write your plans and set time-bound goals that will help you measure your progress in life. He emphasizes four key points when planning your life, especially the first bullet as stated in the bible in the book of Habakkuk.
- Write them down
- Develop a plan
- Take action or take action
- Ask for help
Implement, Monitor, and Evaluate Your Plans
Implementation, Monitoring, and Evaluation were other strategies the speaker talked about. He advised we break our goals into daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly activities so we can achieve them in the year.
He said, “Don’t Work Hard, Work intelligently.” He added being friendly and approachable can build and sustain Networks and Relationships with people.
Put God at The Middle Of All These.
The Last strategy he spoke about was putting God in the middle of all these and he will connect everything, when we leave God out none of these will connect.
He concluded by adding some tips you can’t avoid on the road to success.
- Develop a personal relationship with God
- Avoid Excuses
- Avoid Procrastination
- Identify mentors and Coaches in your files of interests.
- Identify and cut down on time wasters.
- Set priorities and respect time.
- Leave within your means and manage your taste
He ended by saying if there is no way to create one. The MC gave time for some questions and answers both online and in person.
The seminar was broadcast on Facebook via Ing. Philip T. Padi and Holy Trinity Catholic Church.
Rev. Fr. Moses Boakye said the closing prayer to end the seminar…
