A couple of questions are being asked on the Quora platform, over the weekend Funwebgh asked one of the questions most African citizens might be needing answers. Below are some answers.

Answer by Ephraim Kimani – Kenya 🇰🇪

They can’t because they are a problem caused by the main problem. The main problem is that we are trying to fix a continent that has never been broken, to begin with.

Let’s look at Kenya for example. It’s one of only four African countries that are truly multiparty democracies with an executive directly elected by the people.

One of only, roughly ten countries, with a strong independent judiciary. Perhaps the only African country where the public prosecutor can initiate proceedings on a sitting president. I don’t think it can be better than that in terms of governance and accountability framework.

Most other African countries are also nearing a saturation point in the quality of governance and accountability, but the general public is becoming poorer. Ergo, the problem is not governance or accountability, neither is it leadership.

You need to ask yourself how come the USA never borrows money from anyone. Yes, there is a scrambled list of “owners of the dollar”, but that’s a bad joke. The person who owns the dollar is the person who can give it ultimatums and that ultimately means the US electorate. Last month IMF (+ allied investors) gave Kenya ultimatums on terms of getting more loans (as if we asked for loans).

They had the AUDACITY to demand that Kenya accepts constitutional rights reform to get loans! Next, they might demand we change our flag and national anthem.

How do the USA and China fund themselves without being financial slaves? For the USA it’s simple, they are the biggest democracy we trust. They can print trillions of dollars and the world will trust the money.

For China it’s tricky, they are not a democracy, so we can’t trust them. But they have a huge labour force coupled with the world’s largest manufacturing.

So they create leverage by buying dollars to weaken their currency and remain the cheapest manufacturing hub, in the process, amassing a lot of dollars. The same dollars are part of the machinery helping build the African’s infrastructure. Clever bunch.

  1. To me what they needed is a change of mindset because we got all the needed resources to build Africa but the leaders ain’t equipped with the knowledge to put our resources together for the benefit of the citizens they are to serve.
Most of these African leaders are self-centred and corrupt and until such mindset is chiselled out of their heads Africa will remain at where it is until the lord comes.
